How to Properly Charge Your Quest 2 While Playing?

Kaijudo_

I've been trying to find the right answer to this but there never seems to be a answer to it. Is it safe to charge your Quest 2 while still in VR (Watching movies or socializing in VR, not gaming, I know the cable is way to short for gaming lol) just using the cable and plug that came with the Quest 2 or can you only charge and play with a long cable plugged into your PC?..... I know about power banks and all the life hacks so please don't suggest any of that to me. If I can't charge and play with the included cable and plug I've decided I will wait till the elite strap with battery is available again. I just want to know if I can use the included cable and plug if I want to charge and play.

The short answer is you don't charge while you play.

The long answer is complicated:

Option 1 - Long cable and mounts to manage cable

I'm not sure why there would be a problem.

If charging while in use were a significant issue I wouldn't expect Oculus to sell Link cables/Elite straps.

Oculus recommend against using the provided cable for data transfer (although I'm not sure why, I used it to test Link when I first got the headset as another USB cable wasn't working)

"The short answer is you don't charge while you play."

Surely the elite strap/battery pack you've linked are worthless if that's the case?

it doesn't charge, your headset, it just keeps you topped off, your just transferring energy from the battery to the headset.

Is there some kind of distinction?

Yes, i have tried a lot of different options and have had the headset since launch.  All charging whether it be from link in pc, cord in the wall via charger, or high output power pack; you will still have some depletion it will never charge up, just discharge slower.  Where 2hours and 10 mins it could give you 4 to 6 hours, now with 120 hz operation "unlocked" That is going to draw a lot of power, more than what the charging rate.

So the short answer is you don't charge it, the long answer your just buying yourself more time.

Ah just as I suspected! Thanks for the info guys. Like I said I only want to use the elite headset with battery whenever that's back in stock.

I had one follow up question. This isn't a debate I'm just curious about something. If it's not safe to charge with the included cable and plug while the headset is in use/being played.... Why does Oculus tell us to plug the cord in when it does a update?.... Just curious as to why they tell us that.

Thanks for the extra tips but I'm going to wait for the elite strap with battery to be in stock again, unless that rebuff reality device does the same thing as the elite strap with battery?

I asked because I don't want to harm the Quest 2 or battery. So I was asking if it's safe to charge while in use not worried about extra time in the Quest 2.
