Extension Cables

This post is to pretty much ask a question: Can any extension cables (i.e. USB and Display Port extension cables) be too long?
I bought the Rift S when I came out, but the space in my bedroom is fairly limited. So I bought a 15ft. USB 3.0 extension cable and a 15ft. Display Port extension cable to hopefully run it out to my living room.
Anyways, I'm having some trouble with my PC detecting the headset. I found a few posts on the subject where people were using 6ft. cables.
So this made me ask the question, "Can extension cables be too long?"

Yes it can.

The USB cable needs to be an active type. This one works with my Rift sensors, and has been known to work with the headset as well. As for the displayport though...I suspect the same thing, as some people use an HDMI repeater with an extension for the CV1.

The following thread has good info on which cables work with a Rift S. 6ft passive cables are a safe bet, but beyond that can be tricky.
