Is it possible that my power supply is too weak?

Since the beginning I have had problems with the Rift s, and when I want to use it it does not work, I have to restart my computer a hundred times and reinstall the software. However, once it is up and running, I play for a few minutes and the screen goes black - this happens frequently. What I was wondering now, could it be because I have a too weak power supply?

My hardware:
16 gb of ram
geforce 1080ti strix
i7 6700k
and about 6 tb memory
500W Power supply

If anyone has an idea if this is the problem, please let me know.

Ya, maybe 500w is a little on the weak side.  Also some PS lose a bit over time.  I also have a gtx1080ti and I use a corsair gold 750W PS without any problems.

Yes I think it would be your power supply, you should have at least 600w for that card, I'd be inclined to go with 750w.

From a google search for "1080ti minimum power" -

"Minimum 600 W or greater system power supply with one 6-pin and one 8-pin PCI Express supplementary power connectors. Prior to unpacking your new NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1080 Ti graphics card, it is important to make sure you meet all the system requirements listed on page 4 for a smooth installation."

Please don't listen to people here, it's not your psu, the black screen problem is widespread and at the moment there's no fix, look around...there are tons of people with the same issue.

Well, maybe the tonne of guys (= you and a few others) are also using poor quality and/or underrated Power Supplies?  Even Nvidia recommends at least a 600W PS for the gtx1080ti.

My computer is supposed to have a 330w PSU for a GTX1070, I am using it with just a 230W PSU.  So I agree with you, provided its a ITX graphics card.

Laptops don’t count, lol!

Honestly, recommending psu wattage less than recommenced by nvidia is bad advice imho.  Thinking blackouts are only software related is also kinda silly imho.
