Keeping MSI Afterburner on while using VR prevent my Rift S to disconnect every 1-10 minutes ! Tried before many solutions like power options, install/reinstall Oculus software, plug/unplug USB etc with no results ...

After many days of try out i found that in my case use Rift S in room with almost no light stop him from display port reconnect every 1-15 min. I can play hours without any issues. I get my Rift S at winter, second hand and have no major problems using it, bun now i can use it only in specific conditions ... It may be Microsoft USB 3.0 new driver, in my system driver have release date 07.06.2021. Windows 10 21H1, motherboard on Intel B150. Also recently Miscrosoft fixed security problem with USB printers, may this fix affect stability of Rift S ?

Correlation does not equal causation.

My GeForce 1070ti have cooler off before reach 50 degree Celsius, with MSI Afterburner it's on, so videocard may have more time before reach hi temperature. But again another day i have Oculus crashes, maybe less frequent but present. Strange thing yesterday work more or less stable in Fallout 4VR, but crashes in couple of minutes in Big Screen application. After turn off "oculus adaptive gpu scaling" in OTT, crashes gone. Correlation ? Coincidence ? I don't know need more time to test.

I also have a 1070 but don't overclock it and don't use tools like MSI Afterburner at all. My 5 month old Oculus crashed 2 or 3 times in the same week, then a couple of days later it crashed again and then would no longer recognize the DisplayPort connection. After submitting a support ticket, I RMA'd the headset back to Oculus. Today, after waiting 5 weeks, I finally received a "refurbished" replacement headset. Actually, I'm happy, it looks like it is brand new 😃. Anyway, I plugged it in, updated the firmware, paired the controllers, set up the guardian boundary again, and it is working perfectly 😁. So clearly in my case, my old headset had suffered a hardware failure and some component must have burned out. Judging by other posts in the forums, I get the impression that this is a rather common problem with the Rift S.

Interesting. I'm going to try that. It's fine if you dont have to use controllers, but they wont work in the dark as far as I know. I dont use controllers for Microsoft Flight Sim 2020, so this might work for me. I got mine last winter too. It worked fine up until about two weeks ago. Now it disconnects every time I use it. If this issue persists with the Quest 2, I wont be buying one next month.

No-no, controllers work, i use light setup that are enough for controllers to work, but not enough for disconnects to appear. I will post picture with light setup of my room. Lamp have precise light control, look second picture. Even moving lamp on table can cause disconnects to reaper .... But somehow this work for me, today i watch movie 2 hours before display port reconnect appear, not ideal but still is something ...

Try this:
I had the same problem, not used my Rift S for 2 weeks and now constantly disconnecting > Firmware update > missing display port > and this again and again. (nothing chanched at my PC, but maybe a windows update)
Now i found a way it works:
-You need "MSI Util V3" (ask google)
-disconnect Rift S
-in Oculus App also remove the headset
-open MSI Util (as admin) and deselect/unmark "MSI" on your USB Controller, then press APPLY on up/right and restart PC.
-open Oculus app and connect your headset normally
....mine is now working again without disconnect. 🙂

A weird thing. I've done nothing and it seems it fixed itself, or maybe an update lately (?) fixed it. I used to get these disconnects ten times per day. Now maybe once a week.
