Amazing launch yesterday

I want a VR360 or VR180 video of Starman (it certainly would be great promotional material for the Oculus Go).  Did they film with stereo cameras?

The for me one of the greatest moments in history was Apollo 8 when humans went beyond low earth orbit and went around the moon in 1968.

No human or animal has gone beyond low earth orbit since 1972.  I think a lot of the technology was built using analog computers using e.g. the slide rule (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Slide_rule).

I was going to post a similar thread, you beat me to it zboson. Absolutely amazing... not least because the prediction is that the cost of each commercial launch of the heavy is predicted to be a tenth of the cost of NASA's planned heavy that's in development. There are some public services that perform better than private, but this aint one of them!

It was glorious. I had goosebumps. Seeing those two side rockets land in perfect unisons was awe inspiring. I know the 3rd central core didn't quite make it to the barge.Well, it fell over. But this was a test flight .. and a super successful one at that. The floating car in space was PURE elon Musk .. he is getting everyone excited about space!

yep, I was mad at forgetting about it until it was over... had to settle for watching a rerun of the live-stream. Still had my jaw dropping.

One day when we achieve StarTrek level space flight. They will teach people about him in history classes at the academy.

Did you watch Startrek: Discovery? He got a mention in it as a pioneer of space flight.

I did indeed see that... if my Star Trek Starship subscription goes on for long enough (now on issue 117) sooner or later they'll have to include Space X ships as real life overlaps Star Trek lore!

How are you going to move between point A and B faster than the speed of light? You can't transfer information faster than the speed of light.  The phase velocity and surprising even the group velocity (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Group_velocity#Superluminal_group_velocities) can go faster than c (the speed of light in a vacuum roughly 3*10^8 m/s or one foot per nanosecond) but not the signal velocity.

Maybe something with wormholes? Kip Thorne has talked about this but I have not really looked into it.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wormhole#Traversable_wormholes

Nothing goes faster than c except for Fortran.
