A kind of work-in-progress homage to The Sentinel. A game released in 1986 , developed by Geoff Crammond.

I loved this game and played it a great deal on my Spectrum and then, Amiga.

Wanting to visit the abstract world of The Sentinel I began to experiment.
This demonstration shows my effort to date.
There is no logic or gameplay. So you'll just have to IMAGINE you are absorbing trees, creating copies and avoiding the sentinels gaze. However, you can rotate your view with keys A (left) and D (right).
I was curious to see how head input might potentially work with fix positional rotation.
I found that anything but fast rotation speeds resulted in sim sickness on my part. Hence the fast rotaion speed, which has no bad side effects on me at all.

I have never played that game but I gotta say, that image gives me a No Man's sky vibe.

Loving this. a perfect game for VR too, loved it on the Speccy back in the day.
This is a brilliant homage to it and very very playable and enjoyable it is too!

Haha. I just spent the afternoon getting a VR view of Antchester on my Quest 2 with Unity, and was thinking that The Sentinel would be another interesting project. I am a total Unity noob though. (third idea was 3D Monster Maze from the ZX81 - same graphics, but a smooth maze runner with positional sound)com.DefaultCompany.VRAntchester-20210904-170656.jpg

Hi to all Sentinel lovers !

As a BBC Micro Addict (I still have one with the old Sentinel running so well !) I was really waiting for a Quest version because this game would be so great in VR !

... And It has been made !, and was available on app lab :

https://sidequestvr.com/app/4662/resilience !!

...but ... in his WebPage, https://voxel.scale1portal.com/resilience/, the Studio writes that the original author of "The Sentinel" (I beleave Geoff Crammond himself ?) asked for a fee.

I understand this of course because this game contains a very original idea / world / Game play

but still, it is  a bit weird because so many free instances of the game already exist

(I have some on PC, on android...)

Maybe it is juste a question of disclaimer as I noticed that the game does not mention the original author...

let's hope a solution will be found.
