Direct-Mode Display Link crash w/Windows 8.1 x64 (OVR 0.4.1)

Hi,

Even after the upgrade to 0.4.1 I get hard crashes of Windows 8.1, initially on startup, but now only when I run direct to Rift mode. I noticed in the release notes that Display Link isn't compatible with direct to Rift, I know I have some Display Link drivers installed. Is this something that will be fixed at some point? Does the Rift use Display Link and conflicting with pre-installed drivers? Will it never be compatible?

Thanks!

This is very confusing. Do you still get crashes on start up with 0.4.1 or not?

DisplayLink is not right now nor in the forseeable future compatible with our service. I'm trying to work with them but it's very slow going. The best we can do is prevent system instability but because of the way DisplayLink works, they block what we're trying to do with the Rift. Your choice at present is to either uninstall DisplayLink or the Oculus Runtime.

On 0.4.1 after the initial install I had trouble booting up Windows 8.1 at all as it would crash right after the Windows logo. After a few pointless disk scans and attempted safe boots it eventually just started booting again with no apparent changes on my part. Not sure what caused it. I didn't uninstall 0.4.0 before installing 0.4.1. In any case, it boots now.

The hard system crashes for RiftEnabler.sys are now only when using direct to Rift. If I run in extended mode it will probably work as it worked fine with 0.4.0, I'll try that when home. At least I know that DisplayLink is fully incompatible now. Thanks for the info.
