HMD serial has changed, Spud not working (very confused)

 Hi All,

After having 3 replacement headsets so 4 in total wow!!!!

So since then the end of February everything has been fine.

Everything has been going great until a couple of days ago, I
noticed that spud was not being activated with all the problems that
happen with that (black smear etc....)



Anyhow obviously I could not live with it so delved into the log files and found the hmd serial number has changed.

So a spud file is not being generated.

I am wondering if there is a hardware fault or the firmware has got corrupted somehow?
I have done all the usual;

reinstalled windows

reinstalled oculus software

used different usb configurations

all cables are inserted with no adapters or extensions

tried using dvi adapter to hdmi

The thing is the headset serial normally starts with WMHD************ mine has changed to 520C2***********
I know when you get a replacement the serial is different but it never changes as far as I know?

I have never heard of this problem before, anyone else encountered this issue?

has made the headset un-useable, I have put a support ticket in but
feel it needs to be escalated as it does not seem to be getting any
attention,

have you heard of this problem
before as it is obviously pretty rare? I lurk the forums a lot and have
never heard of this before. Would you mind looking in to see if it is
being looked into?

Edit:

I know support are apparently busy, I just need to know if it is an RMA issue as if so would prefer not to have the run around (no offence meant but been there so many times with all the previous tickets)

I'm really sorry about this. Most likely what happened is the firmware flash failed during an update. I will work with the team to see what options we have and we'll get back to you on the ticket. Thanks.

do you think they will be able to send me a tool to reflash it, or will it be another RMA?

So your breaking it by repeatedly using the spud tool and then getting replacements? Doesn't seem right to me, I hope I'm misunderstanding something here

yes your misunderstanding, maybe the post is not clear enough. Spud is not being activated because of a likely corruption in the firmware, It has corrupted the serial number so a spud file is not being generated. I never use the spud tool!

Just to add;

Other replacements problems included;

right earphone failure (due to ribbon failure I believe, common problem)
   
IMU Failure

and finally panel difference that spud was not rectifying!

Yeah everything seems ok, although to be fair I am pretty ocd and when this started happening I stopped using the headset. The image without spud being activated in dark scenes is unbearable 😞

Thing is I am gutted if it will have to be replaced as it is the best one image quality wise that I have had, so I am hoping they can send a reflashing tool.

I live in hope!!!!

Can you not set spud to work with the "new" serial number?

Just an update!

Oculus can not push good firmware when it gets corrupted, I had no indication that a bad firmware update had taken place (really surprised that a factory reset can not be implemented) Always careful during any update process!

Have been offered £20 store credit, no ETA on replacement headset!

Should I not feel a little aggrieved?

could you please look into this? they must be able to push this return out quicker, I find it hard to think anybody would disagree it would be the least I deserve for all the trouble....
