Hello, I could use some help with an error that my HMD is telling me, I don't know if anyone got this?
Basically, the HMD (a rift CV1) is no longer working at all right now. When I plug it, the LED on the top center of the HMD will blink White in an SOS pattern a few times, then will blink on-off yellow every second continuously. In the device tab of the oculus software, it will show the HMD as connected and ready but will say "Headset software update required". So I start the setup process and it gets to the step of updating the firmware, which does not complete.
Feels like the HMD is dead but I wanted your opinions. One detail is that it did manage to spring back to life once and could use it normally, but the next day it didn't start again. Other important detail, my HMD has been deteriorating in the past 6 months or so. I completely lost all audio on it so had to use my own headset, the mic is dead and I had a strange issue where I would get rotation drift (which I managed to pinpoint. I have to powerup the headset/oculus software and not touch it for about 5-10 minutes and I wouldn't get any drift. Some sort of calibration process??). So yeah, this HMD has some mileage and I fear that this latest issue is its final draw.
When it first failed, I was in beatsaber and I play at a high pace, I tend to move around alot and get into the music. The display just went blank and the game froze probably pausing because it was no longer detecting an active HMD ? Just before that, a few seconds prior, the game froze for a few seconds and then resumed, only to completely die a few seconds later.
Still, if there is something that can be done, it would be appreciated!
(I tried it on multiple hdmi connectors, multiple usb connectors as well, on an addon usb card and on the motherboard usb connectors too). I tried playing with the cable a bit to see if there was anything intermittent. Reinstalled oculus software. Didn't go as far as reinstalling the whole pc as it feels like its hardware related but I am willing to do that if there is any chance of fixing it.
Unfortunately not. I had already asked oculus about the previous issue I had, with audio and image drift and they had already suggested to replace it and since im out of warranty, I was offered a ~350$cad refurb replacement (which for a last gen HMD, i found to be cash grab from them).
I went to ebay and bought a replacement HMD there, you can find it at about half the price (which is more reasonable) and it contains only the HMD, no cables, headphones, controllers etc. Have yet to receive it as mail over here is super slow because of covid.
Good luck!
