Please note, the source of the crash is RiftEnabler.sys which looks like is a lowerfilter for display adapters.
The only way to recover my system was to rename c:\windows\system32\drivers\RiftEnabler.sys to not load the module.

Once windows came up, an uninstall of your software DOES NOT remove the lowerfilter from the display adapters :
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E968-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}

causing all display drivers to fail to load (Driver is corrupt or missing error code)

I've the same issue under Windows 8.1. Bluescreen on bootup. Note that this problem occurs regardless of whether the Rift is plugged in or not (in fact, you can install these drivers even if you don't own a Rift).

It appears to be a problem with the NVidia Optimus technology interacting poorly with the Rift Display Driver. The Optimus tech needs to call through both the Intel (igdkmd64) and the NVidia (nvlddmkm) display drivers (and in the case of this crash, also through the Rift Display Driver).

It's a crash in RiftEnabler.sys+73f4 reported in the BSOD as "SYSTEM_SERVICE_EXCEPTION". The context record shows that it was an access_violation error (0xc0000005) due to RIP being NULL. The offending call-site is shown in the call-stack below.

If you are using a laptop with NVidia Optimus tech, I would heavily advise you to create a System Restore Point before installing the Oculus Runtime, just in case your computer cannot boot up following the installation.

Edit: This post was from the 0.4.0 beta runtime driver.

I have a similar issue 'sometimes' on Win8.1 with an AMD 7990 on Catalyst 14.7 drivers. The error is "SYSTEM_SERVICE_EXCEPTION" for Riftenabler.sys and happens when I try to start a demo with the directtorift exe, not on startup. A reboot usually fixes this for me.

I have a similar issue on WIndows 7 x64, Radeon 6850 GPU. My first BSOD on this machine, SYSTEM_SERVICE_EXCEPTION caused by RiftEnabler.sys. Did not happen on boot, but when opening chrome://gpu to check why WebGL content didn't display anymore in Chrome.

Would you like to run my Utility here: viewtopic.php?f=26&t=11395&p=151556#p151556

Same issue, two Gigabyte HD7950 in x-fire, B.S.O.D. when trying to use my DK2 now. Last night I ended up giving up when I got to a point where I could plug in the DK2 while in Windows, then my mouse stopped working completely. I thought I was having other hardware issues until I came here.
