I have been having an issue with the original Rift headset - I lodged a support ticket but it seems to be quite a one-size-fits-all response rather than the tailored reply I was hoping for. So before I went through the raft of suggestions given, ultimately involving a full reinstall of software and drivers, then sending diagnostic files, which will be a bit of a pain, I was hoping to copy in my issue here in case anyone has an immediate solution, or idea as to what the issue might be at least. Here's what I messaged Oculus Support:
"Occasionally whilst playing games via Steam - most recently Hot Dogs, Horseshoes & Hand Grenades, Half-Life: Alyx, and Blade & Sorcery, despite meeting all minimum or recommended requirements - my headset will temporarily freeze on the headset display output and lose motion tracking. Sometimes tracking and display will return to normal, but other times it will remain frozen on the display, but the game will continue running and output audio. Steam or Oculus home menus still display normally if backing out while the game image is frozen, but do not fix the issue - restarting the game is the only solution until the next incidence.
I have an M5A78L-M PLUS/USB3 motherboard with a EVGA GeForce GTX 1080, AMD FX 8370 CPU, 24GB RAM and 500w PSU. I have three trackers; two connected to USB3 via Orico powered USB hub, and one directly to USB2. The headset is connected via AmazonBasics HDMI extension cable, and to USB3 via USB3-rated extension cable, but is detected as USB2 on the Oculus Devices page."
