"Can't reach Oculus service" on Windows 11 Pro w/ Nvidia 510.10 drivers

highlytechnical
Explorer

Tried repair, tried to clear system cache and temp files, tried uninstall/reinstall, tried to use the 2018 patch, nothing seems to be working.

EDIT: After reading through the logs in C:\Users\(my username)\AppData\Local\Oculus it looks like the following error is in the log:

[Debug] [2021-10-17 12:22:05 PM]
status: True
[Info] [2021-10-17 12:22:05 PM] Install Complete: Success

[Warning] [2021-10-17 12:22:05 PM] Exception starting service 'OVRService'. : The specified service does not exist as an installed service

However I can see that the "runtime" service is running in local processes, but attempting to start the "library" service throws an error code 18...

EDIT 2: While waiting for a PM back from the Oculus team, I did some more debug checking (rolled back Nvidia drivers from 510.10 to 496.13, checked the registry paths, tried to set the OVRLibraryService.exe to start automatically and as "local system" which didn't work...so back to a fresh Oculus install) and found this in the logs. Which of course still seem to show that the Runtime service is able to run properly, but the Library service is still having an issue running under the default "NT Service\OVRLibraryService" user settings.

Update 22483.1000 definately works in terms of the Oculus App. Just testing now to see if it fixes the Link, Steam VR and Unreal connection issues which all appeared at a similar time.

Note that the update is pretty large. Took me 2 hrs to download and update.

I was doing a fresh install of windows 10 on a new PC (rog crosshair viii hero wifi, 3950x, 3080ti), and I had this issue as well (NOT WINDOWS 11). What happened with me was It got to the part of the install where you had to login to facebook with a browser (click the facebook button, which should immediately launch a browser window etc), but my PC appeared to have froze....... so like a idiot I rebooted the PC, then got the service error. I had to uninstall reboot, reinstall, but sit there and wait..........eventually it all worked out. Never did figure out what was causing that pause in the moment, but all is fine now......  (all the issues I had trying to VR from my laptop with 2070Q, all went away with the huge performance upgrade to a desktop 3080ti btw). Now to get past this issue from another thread where the link cable attached to usb3.2 (C) port on the MB doesn't charge.......... (like it used to on my old desktop and recently dead laptop).  seems like a software update on Oculus' side that keeps the thing from charging while in use......... (or not in use for that matter), but connected to brick while using airplay has better results.......... still would rather use link cable to play and charge......another story for another thread.........

ALL ! I am on the very latest release of Windows 11 and Nvidia 472.12 and can CONFIRM the Oculus app AND Steam link ARE WORKING ! Tested and CONFIRMED !!! Let the good times RESUME !!!

I'm running Nvidia 496.13 and although the Oculus App installed okay, I cannot get Link or Steam VR to work. HMD is connecting fine to PC and laptop. Frustrating as it was working fine until last week.

Its been a month an a half. Microsoft has put out many updates to their OS Why does it take you guys so long to put out a simple update, Its not as if Microsoft simply through away the base functionality of Windows, it should for a intents and purposes work like it would on windows 10. News flash some of us Either don't wish to move back to W10 or just simply can't. I cannot believe that you were unprepared for this, everyone even those living under a rock knew W11 was launching publicly on the 5th of October
