"Your computer does not meet the updated minimum specifications" on RTX 3070 laptop

Hi all,

I'm currently experiencing poor performance with my Oculus Quest 2 on a MSI Ge76-UG gaming laptop, and I can confirm that every VR game I tried was using the 3070 laptop GPU and not the one from Intel.

Before this I had a desktop PC with a gtx 1080 and the vr performance was way better, even though every other spec of it was worse than the ones of this laptop.

I already tried all the common solutions, like updating NVIDIA drivers, reinstalling everything, and so on.

I do get the "your computer does not meet the updated minimum specifications, which can lead to poor experience in VR" message, which is very weird to me. (I ran OculusCompatCheck.exe, and it says that the gpu is not compatible with Rift and Rift S, maybe that's related)

Does Oculus don't have support for 30xx laptop GPUs? Could that be the problem?

Here are the specs:

Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-10870H CPU @ 2.20GHz 2.21 GHz
RAM: 64.0 GB
GPU: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3070 Laptop - 8GB GDDR6
OS: W10 (64)

I'm currently using the Link cable and a 3.2 gen2 USB.

Thanks!

(Sorry for my bad English)

This has been fixed on my MSI laptop. Not sure if it was Oculus or Nvidia who fixed it, but I just turned on the Oculus software and that message is not longer showing up.

Any word on if they will get around to doing this? They have posts started almost 6 months ago about this issue. I just got a laptop with an 11th gen I7 laptop with an RTX 3070 and this is still an issue. Why? Steam VR test says everything is great, half-life alyx runs great on Steam, but Oculus keep telling me my system doesn't meet requirements?! I have a gaming PC with a 3090 and I have been using the official link cable, picked this laptop up so I can actually do some VR in a room with a lot more area to utilize than my office. Would be nice if this would at least get a reply from Oculus/facebook.

Hey @Nitereaver, unfortunately this was their answer:

"(...) I can see you're currently running a mobile GPU and I appreciate your interest in taking this forward, however, we currently don't have a release date.
I am going to mark this case as solved, but if you have any other questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to get back to me, which will result in reopening the ticket."

So it seems like we, laptops users, will have to keep on waiting.

Honestly a laptop 3070 vs 1080 is a bad comparision.  The laptop can not approach 1080 peroformance because of power limitations.

Thanks @PITTCANNA. Maybe I'm missing something but according to the link you shared, the 3070 mobile is better that the 1080 desktop in almost ever aspect.

But besides that, what I can say is that every non-VR game runs better in my 3070 laptop than in my old PC (the one with the 1080 GPU).

But with my Oculus Quest 2, even Beat Saber has some annoying fps drops.

You are missing the fact the lows are way lower.  and your current configuration may not be working well with the 3070 enoguh to get into where the gpu should really be acting.

I am in your exact situation. Moving from a GTX 1080 desktop to a RTX 3070 laptop. All other non-VR games perform optimally. From my perspective, the software is not optimized to support GPU switching.

I agree with @kurtdaflirt. The performance of hardware doesn't seem to be the problem. Here is the performance result for my laptop with the tool used in that page: https://www.userbenchmark.com/UserRun/43553754

As you can see, VR or no-VR, it should be performing relatively well.

According to the reply I got from Oculus official support, there will be an software update for these GPU, but they don't have a release date yet.

Same problem here, and sadly none of the suggestions I found around can solve it, it just seems we must wait from a driver update.

I'm using an Intel Core i7-1870H 2.2 GHz plus NVIDIA RTX 3070 MSI laptop.  It's quite fast, but with the Quest2 it "does not meet minimum requirements".

Air link works, but with the same issues as the official link cable, i.e., hiccups, even when the GPU is 30-40% utilized and the CPU 60-70% utilized, or less.
I tried overclocking both the CPU via BIOS (up to over 4 GHz) and the GPU via MSI Afterburner (also above 2 GHz).  Nada, zero improvement, it didn't touch the bottleneck.
I made sure via NVIDIA Control Panel that the relevant processes (ovr processes, oculus client, etc.) use the NVIDIA card. No improvement.
I also tried giving realtime priority to the processes via TaskManager.  No improvement.
I also tried lowering the link streaming resolution to 0.7x.  No improvement.

Only thing I couldn't do is tweaking my DDR4 RAM parameters (it runs at 1600 MHz frequency): I tried changing the multiplier (default is 12 x 133 MHz, I tried 13) and/or lowering refresh intervals & C, but I get instability, so I can't say whether that would have any benefit.

In summary, it just seems that there is some sort of driver issue - possibly connecting to the video encoding part of the link messing up something? - that requires the kind help of the OCULUS Support Team / Driver gurus.  I suspect it has more to do with memory bandwidth bottlenecks than processing power bottlenecks, but I couldn't properly pin down what it is.

Does anybody have more info about how to solve this (or help the Oculus support team solve this)?

my guess purely driver support issues. that's why it says does not meet minimum requirements.
