After October, New User Functionality without Facebook?

I STRONGLY dislike the idea of using Facebook. My brother has thought about getting an Oculus Rift at some point as I am using an Oculus Rift. However, we both greatly dislike the idea of using Facebook. Now it seems I'm going to be forced to use this service for a product I purchased about a year ago. There was no indication that such a decision would be forced upon me. If I had known, I would have immediately gone with a competitor.

My question is this: For a New User after the October deadline, what functionality will the Oculus have if the user decides to NEVER create a Facebook account? So far, it sounds like having a Facebook account will be required for the device to even function. Will it be possible to just create an account just so we can use the device WE PAID FOR, and then just let the Facebook account collect dust?

At this rate, Valve Index is looking really good right now.

Using the phrase again and again is repetitive and comes across as if you are just derailing. If that was not the intention, okay, but its got a little old now @wuzp. IMHO

Ditto with constantly threatening legal action against someone, but not carrying through... makes you sound like @POTUS IMHO.

Making an observation of the situations to come is not threatening - I am not in any position to carryout legal action, I am an observer of the previous, current and future ramifications and report such. Trying to make an observation a personal plan is very misguided @wuzp.

I understand its uncomfortable to see the situation that was stated back in 2014 be confirmed and those people that criticized the move proven to be "justified", but its not that they all threatened to do something, they observed a situation. I notice this a lot on some forums dedicated to a platform - criticism is not attack, observation is not descension. That is important.

Actually, while Facebook does want your real name, you don't actually have to put that in.

100% yes you do - not doing so breaks the ToS. Dont tell someone to break the rules like that. Maybe you should lose your account for telling someone to break the rules. Yes, I will report this as a means to get you ban for telling others on how to break the rules set-forth by FB it self. You can't hide - your account is now front page news.

... I would say if FB page was required right now.

Actually, the "big picture" is that FB wants to be like WeChat; which is Twitter, FB, PayPal, your digital government ID & driver license, COVID-19 health status, et al, all rolled into one.  But in order for THAT to happen, they have to take steps towards enforcing some kind of Real ID, like WeChat (Chinese version) does.

DC is when you tell others to violate the TOS of Facebook to provide a solution for the clearly deceptive policy that is about to be forced on users. And that also leads to a potential banning of your account for engaging in the same deceptive practices as Facebook. I thought turnabout was fairplay.
