AMDs secret 4k HMD?

"We are already working with a headset manufacturer, unannounced, with a 4K per eye headset. It exists. It's quite, quite beautiful, and we believe that the roadmap to go into higher resolutions will happen more quickly than is probably expected. Once you've seen a high resolution VR experience, you can see that it's really quite beautiful."

And they are not talking about the Sulon Q here.

Anyone with more information?

They can make em as quick as they like, they can take em up to 4K just in time for Christmas if they so wish.

If PC VR is a niche market and that niche market have already bought their HMDs, who is then going to shell out even more (lots more) for yet another one? Yes, a few will, but they are too late.
Big PC, all the headsets, now using Quest 3

I agree. Unless they announce firm specs and a release date very soon (ie, before Rift starts to ship), they've missed the boat for this generation. Not many will buy a Rift/Vive and then shell out more (and if it's 4K, it's likely to be a lot more) for one of these as well.

Maybe AMD have figured out a way to sell eight GPUs to every VR gamer?

I wouldn't be surprised if there are 4k-per-eye prototype HMDs, but nothing slated to be sold to consumers. Modern GPUs can push multiple 4K outputs at once, no problem. Doing it at a 90Hz or higher refresh rate, not so easy with current DisplayPort 1.2 / HDMI 2.0. And of course the complexity of the graphics would have to be greatly dumbed down for games to render fast enough, so it might start to resemble a higher resolution version of Gear VR.
