Rift CV1 Hardware error

rutger1977
Explorer

I just dusted off my Oculus Rift cv1 and when installing the software it gives me : Hardware error.

The sensors and the controllers work fine but the headset gives no image/display.

The orange light does work on the headset.

Does this mean my headset is broken?

I tried all the trick posted on the internet _de-install\repair and uninstalling and installing Nvidia drivers.

My hardware is GTX 1080 i7 7700

If possible, can you test it on another pc? You just need a laptop with something like a GTX 1060 or better - and hdmi output...

Hi, thanks for the response!

How do i get hold of the system logs?

I am kinda leaning to the idea that there is something wrong with the hardware at this point.

When setting up the device in the Oculus software it simply says: Hardware error when it comes to the Headset part, the controllers and the sensors are setting up fine and give green passes.

When i skip the Headset setup and continue it does show the headset is connected and i can see the firmware version but a message does pops up that that is an hardware error with the headset..

I am pretty bummed out, was looking forward to play Eleven table tennis…

Hey there, @rutger1977!

Of course! Thank you for the quick reply! Here's a quick step-by-step for gathering those logs. 🙂

1. Find your Oculus installation directory (C:\Program Files\Oculus if installed on the primary hard drive).
2. Navigate to Support and then oculus-diagnostics.2

3. Double-click OculusLogGatherer and wait for an executable to appear.
4. Select Get All Logs.

And here's the link I ripped that walkthrough from!

Before reaching out to Support with your logs, there is one thing we could try. While you can't factory reset a Rift, you are able to do a full uninstall and clean install of the Oculus software. This is a factory reset in spirit only, but has worked for many users. We'd recommend trying this before reaching out to support to avoid any extra back and forth. Here's another step-by-step for you.

1. Disconnect the Rift/Link cable from the computer.

2. Disconnect your computer from the internet.

3. Backup any necessary content.

     • You can find steps on how to do so by clicking here (https://store.facebook.com/help/quest/articles/headsets-and-accessories/oculus-rift-s/rift-backup-co...).

4. Reboot into Safe Mode.

5. Uninstall Oculus PC app using the Control Panel.

6. Delete all Oculus folders from the following folder:

     • C:\Program Files

7. Remove any Oculus folders from the following locations:

     • C:\Users\YourUserProfile\AppData

     • C:\Users\YourUserProfile\AppData\Local

     • C:\Users\YourUserProfile\AppData\LocalLow

     • C:\Users\YourUserProfile\AppData\Roaming

     • C:\OculusSetup-DownloadCache

8. Restart your computer in normal mode.

9. Reconnect your computer to the internet.

10. Install Oculus PC app again using the setup tool from our website here (https://store.facebook.com/quest/setup/).

11. Reconnect the Rift/Link cable and re-test the headset.

Here's the link to get in touch with support via email and chat, as well.

There you go, partner. That's every tool you'll need to get this under control and get in touch with support! We wish you the best of luck and the speediest of recoveries!

Thanks for the support.

After trying all the given steps, unfortunaly the rift headset still has no life in it.

The hardware error keeps returning.

Its a shame this headset has died....

Aww man! That's not what we were hoping to hear. First things first, thank you for going through all that and giving it a shot. The uninstall and clean install is one of our more in depth processes.

All may not yet be lost, let's take a closer look and see if there's anything that jumps out to our specialists. Go ahead and gather your logs using the step-by-step we shared yesterday, then get them to support in an email. They'll be able to look into your PC, pick up any errors and determine exactly what we're looking at.

We wish you the speediest of resolutions, and are always here if you have any more questions.
