Some Android apps, like RetroArch, have taken to splitting the screen to display stereoscopic 3D content for Google Cardboard viewers. My idea is that these old Cardboard apps should also work in Oculus TV if Oculus would just add a stereoscopic 3D option.
I think Cardboard and 3d support are two entirely different things.
3d support would mean a 3d screen just like a TV while cardboard would be with head tracking and VR with lens distortion to account for
