Oculus has initiated a recall on Quest 2 headsets, which actually means that you can get a free silicone cover.

(Kojack: I edited the title to clarify)

Apparently, they are also pausing sales for a period.

More info here about the recall of 4 million Quest 2 facial interfaces:
https://uploadvr.com/facebook-pauses-quest-2-sales-skin/
Quote (and note it's a voluntary recall, and many may not have issues with the facial interface):
"Facebook says it is “participating in a voluntary recall of the Quest 2 removable facial interface in coordination with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC).”
The CPSC wrote “Consumers who experience a skin irritation or reaction should immediately stop using the recalled foam facial interface, and all consumers should contact Facebook Technologies to receive a free silicone cover. Facebook Technologies is contacting all Quest 2 users directly.” The CPSC said about “4 million” facial interfaces are affected by the recall, plus 172,600 in Canada, sold between October 2020 and July 2021".

I got my free Q2 VRcover replacement facial interface a couple of months ago. Oculus support supplied this to me without any problems. The VR cover one worked fine but unfortunately the stock eyeglass spacer does not work with this. Anyway, I ended up ordering the VR cover eyeglass spacer and the Cool XG face pads from the VRcover international store. I've found that the Cool thin pad with their spacer works great and I'm very happy with this. Good thing was that, with shipping, the spacer/Cool pads cost me a little less than If I had bought the VRcover interface on its own so I still feel I got good value.
It's interesting to see that Oculus is now simply supplying a free silicon cover to all Q2 users. Makes a little more sense to me that they are now doing this. Since I've already gone the VRcover route, and am very happy with this, I won't be applying for the free Si cover.
Overall, great Oculus/FB customer support imho.

Maybe better if you changed the title to for example "Quest 2 Facial Interface Recall" - as Oculus isn't recalling the entire Quest 2 hmd or controllers.

Yikes...

I edited the title.
There's multiple threads merged into this one, no need for duplicates on the same topic and @Nunyabinez got in first. 🙂
Some people are already running into a problem with the replacement silicone cover offer: they have bought grey market Quest 2s from places like Amazon or unauthorised resellers in regions that Oculus doesn't sell to. Oculus only send covers to the same regions they sell Quests in.
It's a bit like when Amazon sold the Quest 2 in China, despite China blocking facebook servers so the headset couldn't be used.

All this isn't as bad you think. This voluntary, meaning oculus is not being forced to recall. In the long term this is a win for users.
