I just thought that I should start small with something a little less ambitious than a 5 or 6 hour VR survival horror game for my first VR game. And Dino Coaster is it!
It's also going to be handy to get me accepted into the Oculus Start programme too, because you need to have published something to get into the programme.
I'm not exactly sure how I'm going to organise this, and I'm waiting on an answer to a couple of questions about developing a multi-SKU project before I start proper, but in the meantime I'm going to start work on the models. Everything is going to be low poly because I'm going to need it to run on the potato that's powering the Quest but even so I should end up with a jungle that's made up of a few hundred trees as well as a cave system for the roller coaster to travel through.
I might even end up making a few different versions chosen from a menu for people that want different extremes of experiences. One sedate one, one normal one and one extreme one for people that don't have ANY sense at all with loop da loops and 360 degree turns along the track.
This thread is going to be my temporary dev blog cos I STILL haven't got off my arse and sorted my web site out yet. 😄
More to follow during the next few days cos it's gone 2am here in Blighty B)
Next up is the design of the menus, then the design of the terrain, the jungle/tree placement, creating three different versions of rides (Sedate, Normal and Extreeeeeeeme) and then sorting out the gameplay and sound effects.
I guess I SHOULD start a GDD (Game Design Document) before anything else, think I'll do that tomorrow. 😄
Not entirely happy with the rust placement on the textures but it'll do for now, I'll refine the textures once I start work on the Beta stage I think. This is all pre-Alpha at the moment.
